Everything you need to know about getting started with breathwork

  • Breathwork refers to any type of breathing pattern or technique in which you are exerting conscious control. In breathwork, you manipulate or change your breathing pattern to have a desired effect on the body, mind and/or energetic state. Breathwork encompasses various techniques that incorporate the intentional use of the breath, some that are more calming and regulating to your system and others that are activating and enhancing to your system

  • Breathwork is a tool for major transformation and healing, and the best part is that it is natural and always available to you! Things are constantly overloading our sensory nervous system throughout the day without us even knowing. Stress then activates our sympathetic nervous system and our autonomic responses of fight or flight. Breathwork drops you into the parasympathetic nervous system and relieves mental, physical, and/or emotional tension

  • There are a variety of breathwork techniques you can try and we suggest incorporating these into your daily practices. For more intense breathwork (holotropic or longer sessions) we suggest only one per week

    • Boosts your body’s immune system

  • With breathwork you are voluntarily stimulating the involuntary (autonomic) system. With active breathing you are increasing the oxygen levels in the body. You are oxygenating the blood, stimulating the hypothalamus gland, and releasing endorphins in the body. Deep breathing strengthens the diaphragm, allowing us to breathe in more oxygen and clear out more carbon dioxide. It also helps improve our lymphatic system and generate more oxygen-rich blood, which assists in our body’s circulation.

    • Yes, it is your body's natural regulation system

    • Always listen to your body's intuition, while it can be highly uncomfortable, you should not push yourself to the point of pain

    • Never practice breathwork while driving or in water

    • Consult your doctor before practicing breathwork if pregnant
